Tradition gives us hope and happiness, and while I know it won’t be the same this year without my husband’s Mom here (we miss her so much already), we are going to try to incorporate some of our usual traditions to help carry us through to a new beginning and happier 2018. Especially for the kids. They need this the most, to see how we persevere in light of adversity. For thanksgiving this year, we’re going to use the staples most of us have had, sans the nuts, as per usual, except the one cooking in the kitchen! Here’s what we are thinking. Do nothing. Do absolutely nothing, call Whole…
Menu Board Inspiration 11/13 – 11/17
We had a fantastic nut free breakfast at the Knick this morning. They make their own pancake mix in-house, so we know it’s nut-free. They are great about handling allergies. We’ve been dining there with family for the past 7 years, and luckily, haven’t had a single issue. From quick date nights, to baptisms, mother’s day, father’s day, post-fireworks cocktails and more, this restaurant holds some of our greatest family memories. We’re grateful to have such a great place so close. This week is crazy – I’m sensing a theme here – so the menu is quite boring, but hey, I’m not a restaurant. Here’s what we’ve got, nut-free and…
Dunkin' Donuts and Nut Allergies
Please click the link below & read my updated blog post about Dunkin Donuts allergy policy. Updated on 1/23/2018 All Dunkin Donuts locations are different when it comes to allergies, please check yours before ordering. Dunkin’ Donuts is a relatively new treat for our family. We started treating Carter to Dunkin’ after his hemoglobin levels improved in September following his HUS infection, and it just became our thing. After the doctor, we’d head over to Dunkin’ to celebrate good health. Kind of ironic since Donuts are in no way healthy for you. Fast forward, I was talking to my best nut free mom friend, and she threw out the idea…
Slow Cooker Indian Butter Chicken
This blog post is dedicated to my Mother-in-Law, Sue, who passed away while we were at a conference this past weekend in Denver. She inspired my husband to cook, who inspired me to cook because our daughter has life-threatening food allergies. We love her so much and her presence is missed dearly. Through her many delicious recipes, we will keep her memory alive. May she rest in peace. This week has been full of emotion for us. High highs and very low lows. The highs came from the exciting travel and conference my hubs and I attended together, FaBlogCon, in Denver, CO. We love Denver so much. We had some…
Fablogcon Day 1
We arrived in Denver last night after a few hours of travel and I have to say, things have changed so much since my husband and I last traveled alone together, sans kiddos! This made me happy and sad. Sad because I can’t believe it has been so long since we last had some travel / adventure time together, but happy because technology has flooded our world making it more efficient and fun to get around. iPad bars, recharging stations, smarter aircraft, wifi everywhere. I love it. We have had a chance to check out our hotel, which has just undergone a HUGE renovation and it’s really beautiful. The conference…
Chocolate Chip Ghost Muffins
Tonight we baked pumpkin muffins for school tomorrow to celebrate Halloween! We also finally carved our pumpkins, and holy cow, carving an owl was harder than I thought! But we did it, all of us (as in all four of us carved one pumpkin because it was huge and we ran out of time!), and the pumpkins are on the front porch ready for tomorrows trick-or-treating! The kids are excited for “The Great Pumpkin” to arrive, since we do not keep our candy, the Great Pumpkin leaves a small little something in exchange for the kids candy (that is always donated). This year I found glow in the dark Thomas…
Menu Board 10/30-11/3
How is it Sunday night already? This weekend was so nice – had some girl time with my Mom and we saw Guys and Dolls at the theater and it was amazing – if you have a chance to see this performance, I highly recommend it. The singing was incredible, as was the acting and dancing. It made for a really fun night out. As a family today, we closed up our garden, and turned the soil over/played in mud, put outside toys away, raked leaves/rolled in them, got laundry going, packed nap mat bags, lunches for the week, showers, and lastly, menu planning + groceries. We’ve got a full…
Chloe's Chocolate Costco Find
Up until this week, we were Costco virgins. We’ve been to Costco with friends, but never actually had a membership. At 5’2, this store consumed me! It’s definitely overwhelming for someone who is not familiar with the layout – bathrooms are important when shopping with kids! We found those first. On the opposite side of the store. Of course. But, overall, it was OK – we found some good stuff and a few new nut-free finds. My biggest complaint is that everything is SO BIG! Sometimes I just want to try a sample size before spending the $$ on it. That was the other thing, prices are not always listed…
Dr. Keehn's Sunday French Toast
“Take two and call me in the morning.” — Dr. Keehn, last Sunday after making brunch. As a healthcare provider, it’s my husbands calling to help make people feel better. Sometimes it isn’t always easy, especially the field he has chosen. His creative outlet is cooking. He says that one of the ways that you can ALWAYS make someone feel better is by making them something delicious to eat and I think that’s why my he likes cooking so much. Even when the medicine part doesn’t go as planned, a good meal always does! And we are grateful for that! One of my personal favorite breakfast items is French Toast,…
Fall Colored Sprinkles
This is SO incredibly rare, I had to buy them and post them here: Made in a nut free facility! We can use these on cupcakes for Halloween and Thanksgiving! Or ice cream sundaes. Plus they were 50% off. We purchased these at Hobby Lobby. This is NOT my usual store for craft and baking, it just happened to be near our errands today. Don’t forget Betty Crocker is a safe brand for baking if you’re in a pinch, just make sure you double check the label. Happy Monday!!
Menu Board Inspo
It’s Sunday night and I’m menu planning, grocery list making, homework assisting, and doing all the other Sunday night chores! Here’s what I’ve started thinking about for this week: Monday: Chickpea curry with rice – I made this in March, click the link to see the recipe Tuesday: Kung Pao Chicken with rice – recipe in my food networks magazine Wednesday: Greek Salads + Soup Thursday: Whole grain veggie burrito bowls Friday: Pita pizzas with veggies and red sauce + spiced apple cider Groceries are being ordered online since this week is going to be crazy – I hope you have a great week!!
Chocolate Chex Bars
This no-bake dessert is perfect for a rainy, lazy Sunday like today. We needed a Packer Party dessert to bring along to my in-laws house today, and this was easy to make and take along. Plus, the kids could help make it! Did you know Chex, gluten free and nut free, makes a Chocolate Chex cereal? It’s amazing. My son (of course) found it at the grocery store a few weeks ago. We noticed the recipes on the back of the box and decided to give them a try. My only suggestion for Chex would be to actually just print the recipe on the box, like rice krispies does! I…
Buzzy's Lake House Food Truck
Hold the phone. Nut allergy friends REJOICE! Your food truck woes are OVER. Yesterday my little buddy and I (still on house arrest – kind of sick, but not really, check out my IG for more info on this) were hanging out on the square in downtown Madison when we decided to check out a local food truck, Buzzy’s Lake House via my Instagram feed. Buzzy’s was parked on the corner of Wisconsin + Mifflin, which was uber convenient since we were at the toy store one block away. Capitol Kids is probably one of my favorite stores for kiddo swag in all of Madison. They have the most unique…
