Nut Free Baseball Stadium

The Yard Goats Stadium in Connecticut will be the first in the U.S. to be 100% nut free. Other stadiums offer nut free days to enjoy the game. However, the tickets to these games are usually limited, and not great, as in “nose bleeds” and on top of it, how “nut free” can you get those areas?!

Happy to share this exciting news. Even though its baseball team we have never heard of, its definitely on our list to see a game here now that’s its SAFE!

Yard Goats to Stop Selling Peanuts

Yard Goats announce the facility will become the first peanut-free venue in the country.

Hartford, Conn- The Hartford Yard Goats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, announced it will no longer sell shelled peanuts and Cracker Jack at Dunkin’ Donuts Park in an effort to make the venue more accessible for those with peanut and tree nut allergies. While many teams throughout professional sports have peanut-free sections, and/or peanut-free games, the Yard Goats are the first to stop selling the common allergen completely at their home venue in order to create a safe environment for individuals with peanut and tree nut allergies. The idea to go peanut-free arose after a series of meetings with concerned parents of children with peanut and tree nut allergies.

“Everyone should have the opportunity to experience the atmosphere at Dunkin’ Donuts Park,” Yard Goats President Tim Restall said. “With more than 200 food items available, it makes sense to eliminate just two that allows fans with peanut allergies to attend games.”

Reactions to peanuts and tree nuts can be life-threatening. One in 13 children, or roughly two in every classroom, has a food allergy, according to Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE). Studies show that the number of children with food allergies in the United States grew by 50 percent between 1997 and 2011, and the number of children living with a peanut allergy tripled between 1997 and 2008.

The announcement was made during the Yard Goats Promotional Calendar release for the coming 2019 season. More than 200 fans, ticket holders, and sponsors were on-hand for the unveiling with several television and radio personalities taking part in the program.

Individual Tickets for all home games will go on sale this Friday, February 8th. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase tickets in person only, beginning at 10:00 AM at the Click It or Ticket Box Office at Dunkin’ Donuts Park. The first 50 fans to purchase tickets in person will receive a $25 Dunkin’ gift card. Tickets can be ordered over the phone beginning at 12:00pm, and online at www.yardgoatsbaseball.com. This will be the first opportunity for fans to purchase tickets for the home opener, Thursday, April 11th (7:05 PM), as the Hartford Yard Goats host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays affiliate). The Yard Goats will play 70 home games at Dunkin’ Donuts Park in 2019

Blueberry Oat Wheat Muffins

If you’re looking for a filling morning on-the-go breakfast, these muffins are the best one’s we have made so far! And the difference is soaking the oats for 20 minutes in milk. It sounds like an annoying task, but honestly, it MAKES these muffins so fluffy and delish. Enjoy – both kids devoured them today!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240ml) Sassy Cow Milk
  • 1 cup (80g) old-fashioned whole rolled Quaker Oats
  • 1 and 1/4 cups (156g) wheat King Arthur Flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground Penzeys cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) honey (or 1/2 cup sugar)
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (190g) fresh or frozen blueberries (do not thaw)

Directions

    1. Combine milk and oats. Set aside for 20 minutes so the oats puff up and soak up some moisture. This is what makes the muffins! Dont skip. You can, but the muffins will be flat.
    2. Preheat oven to 425°F (218°C). Spray a 12-count muffin pan with nonstick spray or use cupcake liners.
    3. Whisk the (DRY INGREDIENTS) flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt together in a large bowl until combined. Set aside.
    4. Whisk the (WET INGREDIENTS) melted butter, honey, egg, and vanilla extract together in a medium bowl until combined. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stir, then add the soaked oats (milk included, do not drain) and blueberries. Fold everything together gently just until combined.
    5. Spoon the batter into liners, filling them all the way to the top. Top with oats and a light sprinkle of coconut sugar, if desired.
    6. Bake for 5 minutes at 425 then, keeping the muffins in the oven, reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (177°C). Bake for an additional 15 minutes.
    7. Cool on wire rack.

Yield is about 12. ENJOY! These can be stored in an air-tight container for 1 week, or pop into the fridge for 2 weeks. Don’t leave them out the open too long, blueberry molds quickly! Have a great week!

With love & light.

Dove Valentine’s Chocolate

img_20190215_134715_7317786997514514961926.jpg

Chocoholics REJOICE! If you have peanut / treenut allergies, I have such good news to share. Today we called Mars Candy Company, the manufacturer of Dove Chocolates. We asked spcifically about the Pink Champagne and Milk Chocolate Swirl hearts. The customer service rep assured us that they are made in a dedicated peanut and treenut free facility.

Whats even more exciting is that on EVERY DOVE CHOCOLATE PACKAGE, it will say “Allergies” and a “may contain” statement. The may contain statement may not always be present. If it’s NOT present, then your specific allergen is not present in the manufacturing facility. If the allergen is in the manufacturing facility, it WILL BE STATED on the package in the “may contain” statement under “allergies.”

Wait, there is more! When you’re looking for allergy info, look for this code. ELZ. ELZ is a code that means the chocolate is made in a dedicated nutfree facility. No peanuts or tree nuts.  This code is located on the back of the bag in the “best by” date white box. It’s directy below the date.

Lastly, I just have to say KUDOS to Mars/Dove for having such EXCELLENT and KNOWLEDGABLE customer service representatives answering these allergy phone calls. Our rep today called me back very quickly and she was able to answer my questions and then offer more information for future purchases. I was impressed!

Thank you, Dove!

Cocoa White Chocolate Chip Cookies

For Valentine’s Day, we wanted to flip the traditional chocolate chip cookie around and make it a cocoa cookie with white chocolate chips. The flavor is amazing! Artisan Kettle White Chocolate does NOT disappoint. White chocolate is not always our favorite, but Artisan Kettle’s recipe for their white chocolate chips is incredible. It makes these cookies 100%. We made a batch to test, then another to deliver in some sweet Valentine treat bags for teachers at our school. We LOVE our teachers 🙂
