Disney Vacation Day 3

Baby steps. Little man is improving. Slowly. Still not up for much though. So we’ve been strategizing and taking turns with him. Also consuming a copious amount of delish adult beverages. Thank you. Disney. Kim Crawford is a true member of our family. Yesterday Disney surprised us big time. HUGE. While Gigi was watching C+C, a Cast Member named Brittany came to our room to drop off a few gifts for the kids. Brittany had spent the afternoon crafting with Chloe in the Community Room and during that time Chloe told Brittany how sick her little brother was. She also told Brittany about her lack of autographs at Chef Mickey…

Disney Vacation Day 2

We all slept in this morning after a rocky night with little man. Luckily we have a washer and dryer in our unit so we could easily wash froggy lovey and get this boy back to bed! We rescheduled all of our plans for today and had a low key day. We made a great breakfast in room and watched cartoons before giving everyone baths. Fresh start today. We walked some great paths outside and grabbed lunch to go eat back in our room.  Little lady is at Craft time downstairs while we watch Disney Jr in our room and help Carter feel better. Disney foodservice has been wonderful! Epi…

Disney Vacation Day 1

No vacation is complete unless someone is either puking, screaming or crapping their pants. This time, puke was how we started our day. We woke up at 5:30 with my little man saying his tummy hurt. We thought he was just hungry. A box of travel cereal later, he seemed fine. Pack up the condo and out the door – our Uber was right on time and drove us to the airport. That’s when up-chuck number 1 happened. In the car. Lovely. Change the wardrobe and bag up the stink. Then we checked into the flight and number 2 occurs. At this point, we decided to delay our flight by…

Disney Prep

The holidays are over and we’re full-on running into 2017. So far, so good. Knock on wood. It’s my daughter’s birthday next week, so we’ve got a countdown going on for the big “6” – and her fun little party we have planned.  The following weekend, my husband and I are going on our annual “fancy” fundraiser winter date with friends. Planning date nights with two kids is WAY more challenging than we ever thought. We have been planning this date since November, and just secured a babysitter in late December. We are crossing our fingers that the virus we have now is the last one we get before our…

Nut-free Vacation Planning

Pre-kids, my husband and I had grand expectations of worldly travels with kids in tow eating baby crêpes in Paris and schnitzel in Stuttgart, and Bangers and Mash with a few pints in the UK. Then, reality set in. Colicy baby, an entire vacation cancelled last minute due to whooping cough. Eventually a nut allergy diagnosis. Bad colds, never ending sick kids. Ear infections on top of ear infections and exhausted parents. We quickly learned that our dreams of extravagant travel were pretty far off in the distance. If we wanted to actually enjoy it, anyway. When life hands you lemons, make lemonade, or something. We have adapted over the…

Trolls Movie

If you’re feeling a little bummed out and could use a pick-me-up, Trolls is where it’s at, for any age.  It’s dark, cold, gloomy, and a whole bunch of little things add up during the week that can put a frown on our face. This movie puts things in perspective. It reminded me that music and spontaneous dance parties are essential parenting skills to brush off the small stuff and keep smiling. Don’t quit. Dont give up. Give kids hope for peace and friendship. And even though everyday isn’t rainbows and cupcakes, there is nothing wrong with seeing the glass half full, all the time! Oh! Our movie theater is…

Nut-free at Kalahari

***Update as of 5/25/2019 we no longer consider Kalahari allergy friendly. The large assortment of allergy free snacks available last time are no longer stocked at Kalahari. There is a restaurant inside the game area that will acommodate allergies, however. But the snacks by the pool and waterpark are gone. The #1 Allergy Friendly hotel for families would be across the street at THe Great Wolf Lodge where the entire hotel and facility is nut free. All restaurants, snacks and treat are safe to those with nut allergies. They take ALL allergies seriously and work to ensure each guest is having a great time. *** This week, my husband had…

First Independent Play Date

When you have a child with life-threatening food allergies, leaving your child alone, for any amount of time, is anxiety provoking. Luckily for us, Chloe’s friends and their families have all been amazing and over the top careful about her food allergies. Here’s what we did to prepare for this HUGE step of independence for her:  We decided to invite her new friend over to our home first. This allowed us to talk as a family with her friend and her family about our serious food allergies. This conversation was a great ice breaker and allowed us to talk openly about many things parents have concerns about. After the first play…

Safe Buns at Metro Market

Good Morning! Bakery items are almost always a no-go in our house. Unless we can get a 100% confirmation from the manufacturer on cross contamination, we do not buy it. How do we find out about these details? Emails and phone calls, and keeping in touch with our nut community of friends which we share lots of information! We average about 3 calls/emails a month in our house, so not too bad. Holiday time , it will be about 3 calls per day!!!?⛄? Here is a sample email that my husband wrote this morning while he was at the grocery store picking up supplies: Hello,My daughter has allergy to nuts. …

Trail Mix

I’m watching Flipping Summer on HGTV right now. Have you seen this show with Tarek and Christina? They create some seriously sweet spaces. Anyway, that has nothing to do with what I am about to tell you. We finally found a safe, Nut-free trail mix! It’s been 3 years since we have had trail mix!!!!! Last weekend, I decided to try Jet.com to order a few “target” items. Everytime I go to TARGET, I drop atleast $100. This makes me sad. I have lists, then Target has these amazing displays, cute tops, amazing $1 bins, and then I somehow justify every purchase, even if it means calling my MOM for…

'twas the night before school

Tomorrow’s the first day for Chloe and we are so excited. Her outfit is picked out, lunch box packed, and her backpack already in the car. Just wanted to share a quick pic of tomorrow’s (boring) bento box. Mini bags of cereal incase we are running late, and tooth brushes into the lower level bathroom for a last minute brush. Hopefully our 5:50am alarm will give us enough time! Sweet dreams! ?

Wisconsin State Fair – Updated 8/5/16

Are you done hearing about our nutty life? Lol. I am. So this post will be more about how fun State Fair is, sprinkled in with “how to” with allergies. Growing up on the south side of Milwaukee, the state Fair was ALWAYS part of our summer. We used to make an entire day of it, meeting many family members at the fair for our annual cream puff fight. We enjoyed seeing the animals, going on rides and eating as much food as we could shove into our tummies. Most importantly, we would celebrate my brothers Birthday, which is August 5. Love you, brother! Fast forward a few years (ok,…
